Description
The Meadow Fritillary butterfly, Boloria bellona, is a native to Northern and Eastern US, but is expanding its eastern range southward due to its adaptability to disturbed habitats. This individual was found in Big Meadows, Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountain range in summer feeding on a butterfly milkweed. Although the favorite food source of the adults is black-eyed susan. The caterpillar of the Meadow Fritillary feed on violets.
